If you have a passion for writing like I do and want to earn residual money at the same time, a blog is a great way to generate money online. You might be a blogger by leisure already, but you are missing a good opportunity to put extra money in your pocket if you don’t take advantage of money generating online tools available on the internet. It just takes a few nips and tucks, so why not do it?
The most common mistake bloggers make is choosing among the most popular niches. A niche is simply the topic or theme your blog is focused on. The caveat here is that while the majority of internet users will be interested to visit your blog, you will have to contend with other bloggers who share the particular niche. Granted, choosing a popular niche is not generally a bad idea, not with bloggers who have extensive knowledge of online tools and those with a robust capital to kick off their online business.
What I’m driving at is this: the niche you choose should be one that you’re good at and have a particular interest in. You can’t have one over the other; you need to have them both.
You need to ask yourself which subjects you are interested in and make a list. Here’s an example:
1. Do you love cars?
2. Are you a staunch toy collector?
3. Are you a movie buff?
4. Do you have extensive knowledge about cooking and culinary arts?
5. Do you love to read books, graphic novels, etc.?
And so on.
The next step after choosing a particular niche is to produce an array of keywords that are relevant to it. There are a plethora of websites that offer free keyword generators such as Google Adwords, Wordstream and many others.
If for example you chose ‘Cars’, just enter the word in the empty field using the keyword generator and it should yield the top keyword combinations according to frequency of searches. For ‘Cars’, this is what we came up with:
*cars
*cars vehicles
*parts cars
*new cars
*boat cars
*cars bikes
*used cars
You can use the keyword results as a guide to what you can write about. Keyword density plays a big part in helping your article become more visible in Google searches. Just arrange the words or add new ones in order for the title of the article to make sense.
The next step is to verify the search trend of the keywords. You can use the Google Trend tool for this. Now, keep in mind that it’s not always wise to choose those that are high in the graph. Pay close attention whether the keyword set is on the rise or on the decline. In a way, it’s like playing the stock market. Remember, choosing the keyword set that is steadily on the rise usually gives you more returns.
Once you’ve come to a decision, you can set up your blog and write away! A particular niche for your blog, especially one you interests you, will always keep you motivated in churning out informative articles that will appeal to your target market.
